“Children of God” (John 1:12-13)

The eternal, Creator God who is the Word and the life of mankind wasn’t rejected by all. John declares that some believed the Light. And those who did believe him were given the privilege or authority to be his children:

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”

The eternal Word came into the world and some believed in him and become children of God. Why did some reject and some believe in him? Why is the same thing happening today? John gives us the answer in the next verse.

“Who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”

We become God’s children through a supernatural birth. We are born not of human or physical means, “but of God.” He is the source of our life. Such love, mercy, and grace from God in making us his children calls for a life of praise for his unconditional love.
